Who We Are

Strathmore Law School is a private law school located in Nairobi, Kenya which opened its door in 2012. They are one of the founding members of Africa in the Moot and began competing in the 2019 Vis Moot Vienna.

The team has won several pre-moots, in preparation for main Vis event, mostly under the AiTM forum. They have also made it to the Rounds of 16 of the Vis Moot Vienna, which is no mean feat. The team has always produced remarkable oralists that have even received honorable mentions.

The team is constantly motivated by its thirst for innovative solutions to legal problems, seeking to unravel refreshing perspectives. The goal is do it all while keeping it simple, making the art of arbitration relatable- and therefore effective.

Ahmad Parpia

Ahmad is a student at Strathmore University studying Law. He is currently in 2nd year, with a keen focus on mooting and legal research.

His dedication to mastering both the theoretical and practical approach to International Commercial Arbitration is evident through his rigorous research in this field. Ahmad's main focus is to advance his oral advocacy skills through his participation in the 31st Vis moot.

He embodies the promise of a future legal leader, seamlessly integrating academic rigour with the art of persuasive argumentation.

Melissa Ikawa

Melissa is currently a fourth year law student at Strathmore University. She is set to graduate in July 2024.

During her time in law school, Melissa has been an avid mootie, participating in a range of different international moot courts.

Due to her engagement in the Vis Moot in the past few months, and courses studied at Strathmore, Melissa has taken a strong liking to commercial arbitration and hopes to pursue a career in it.

Albert Macharia

In his third year at Strathmore Law School, Albert Macharia is a dynamic and dedicated Law student based in Nairobi, Kenya. Excelling academically, he stands out as one of the top performers in his class and is recognized as one of the most promising mooters.

Albert's journey led him from the IBA International Criminal Court to his passion for International Commercial Arbitration. Currently part of the Willem C. Vis Team, he is making waves in the legal arena, representing Strathmore University. Beyond his academic achievements, Albert is a passionate advocate for humanitarian causes. Championing mental fitness and accessible justice, he collaborates with local NGOs to make a positive impact on society.

Outside the legal realm, his heart beats for music and theology. With a fondness for the piano, Albert is not just a law enthusiast but also a connoisseur of fine music.

Melissa Bertilla

Melissa is currently a third year student of law at Strathmore University.

Her interest in ADR has enabled her to train and practice as a mediator for the past one year. She is also enthusiastic about providing access to justice to less privileged communities, and has undertaken a series of projects under the Strathmore Law Clinic as a means of furthering the agenda.

Melissa loves nature, and enjoys a good hike every once in a while.

Sincere Nyanchama Shem

Sincere, a final year student at Strathmore University, is a passionate advocate for International Law, Intellectual Property, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Currently serving as a mootie for the 31st Willem C. Vis Moot, she thrives on the challenge of tackling complex legal issues.

Beyond the academic realm, Sincere is a dedicated traveler, finding inspiration in diverse cultures and perspectives. Her love for crafting innovative solutions and a fascination with language make her a true logophile.

Sincere approaches legal problems with a unique perspective, infusing an air of lightness and simplicity into her work. Her ability to bring a refreshing burst of energy to discussions sets her apart, making her not only a valuable team member but also someone who adds a vibrant touch to the world of legal scholarship.

Tabitha Munyaka

Tabitha is currently in her final year of Law School at Strathmore University, and is representing Strathmore in the 31st Vis Moot.

She is also the Managing Editor for the Strathmore Law Review.

Tabitha is passionate about legal research and writing.

Irene Muhoro (Coach)

Irene Muhoro is currently a Trainee Advocate at TripleOKLaw LLP. She participated in the 28th Willem C Vis Moot in 2021, representing Strathmore University. Her team advanced to the rounds of sixteen and she received an honourable mention for the Martin Domke Individual Oralist Award. Later that year, she participated in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot where her team made the quarter-finals.

Recognised as the best mootie in her graduating class, an accolade attributed to her experiences with Africa in the Moot, Irene transitioned into assistant coaching for Strathmore’s moot teams within the umbrella of the initiative. She also currently serves as a member of the Media Committee and is thrilled to be contributing to the transformative impact that Africa in the Moot creates in the lives of its students.
