5th East Africa Pre-Moot and Arbitration Conference

The 5th East Africa Pre-Moot will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 17 to 21 February 2026. Interested teams, arbitrators and prospective sponsors of the event are welcome, as we bring the truly global nature of international arbitration, commercial law and the Vis Moot to the African continent. Please express your interest and register by contacting eapm@africainthemoot.com.

This award-winning event is the only event of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, and comprises two days of workshops and trainings for Africa in the Moot teams, networking opportunities for teams and practitioners alike, and the pre-moot competition. The Pre-Moot Competition will be held over 20-21 February 2025.

The Africa in the Moot Education Series is back, and we’re starting strong - new season, new insights, same Vis Moot spirit! To open the 2025/2026 season, we’re joined by one of the pillars of the Vis Moot community, Prof. Dr. Stefan Kröll, LL.M, Professor and Director of the Centre for International Dispute Resolution at Bucerius Law School, Hamburg - a Vis Moot Master whose name is synonymous with the Moot itself. In this special session, “In Conversation with Prof. Stefan Kröll: The Making of the 33rd Vis Moot,” we go behind the scenes of how one of the world’s most celebrated moot problems comes to life. In partnership with Deakin University and the Deakin Law School, many Africa in the Moot teams are invited to participate in this virtual moot. In 2024 12 teams will be participating. The Alfred Deakin ICA Moot provides law students from Australia and overseas with the opportunity to develop practical skills, and engage with international commercial law and arbitration.

By participating in the moot, students can develop their advocacy skills and engage with experienced legal professionals, allowing them to expand their knowledge and network with potential future colleagues. Good luck to all participants!

3rd Annual East Africa Pre-Moot

Third time is the charm! We are proud to present the 3rd Annual East Africa Pre-Moot, with 12 competing teams from 8 African nations. The East Africa Pre-Moot is the largest in-person Pre-Moot in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The East Africa Pre-Moot comprises 2 days of intensive workshops, followed by 2 days of oral arguments, and exciting social events for all participants in between. It is the only event of it’s kind.

For many participating teams, this year is their respective university’s first year competing. For most teams, the East Africa Pre-Moot will be their first opportunity to test their skills against other teams, in person, and to build on their networks. We offer all participating students, coaches and participants four exciting days with great academic opportunities that will offer students valuable skills for their competition in the Willem C. Vis Moot, as well as for their future careers.
